Planning & projections
The Planning page (at /planning) models where a portfolio — or your whole net worth — could go, as a range of outcomes rather than a single line. It combines a deterministic projection with a Monte Carlo simulation that estimates your odds of hitting a target. A lighter version of the same engine is available as See in future on every portfolio.
Choosing a subject
Start by picking what to plan: a single portfolio or Net worth (all portfolios). A summary strip shows its current value, invested amount, profit/loss, monthly income and age.
Assumptions
Each category gets the fields that make sense for it: expected annual growth (holdings), interest rate (savings/deposits), annual appreciation and rent growth (properties), plus monthly contributions and withdrawals, dividend yield, the reinvest/payout split, and compounding frequency. Everything is prefilled with estimates derived from your actual history — Reset to estimated brings the prefill back after you experiment.
Project
Project runs the deterministic forward projection to your target date: projected value, projected income (monthly/yearly/daily), and the split between total contributed, growth reinvested and capital P/L, drawn as a growth chart.
Run simulation (Monte Carlo)
The Planning tab adds uncertainty: set a volatility (±% per year) and optionally a target value, then Run simulation. The app runs many randomized scenarios and reports:
- The likely range — the band between the 10th and 90th percentile outcomes, drawn as a fan chart around the median.
- The median outcome, plus the high (90th) and low (10th) cases.
- If you set a target: the probability of reaching it by the target date, and a likely reached by date range.
The result is an estimate based on simulated scenarios — not financial advice.
Saved plans
Name and save a set of assumptions to compare scenarios later; Load this plan restores everything.
See in future
On any portfolio (header button) or on the net worth card, See in future opens the same projection in a modal — non-destructive, nothing about the portfolio changes. For net worth it has two modes: Simple (everything as one pot at a single blended rate) and Detailed (each portfolio projected on its own assumptions, then summed).
Availability
Monte Carlo simulations and the Planning page are a Plus feature; deterministic See-in-future projections note their own plan limits in-app.
